...there is a place beyond your dreams

Amara Group

Established in 2001, the Amara Group Myanmar started out with the Amara Mountain Resort in Kalaw. Situated at the foot of the Shan Mountains, this original British colonial building was ideal for the type of resort hotel we envisaged in this fascinating area, with its friendly people and beautiful surroundings.

The next project took shape in 2003, when the Amara I, our first luxury cruise boat. Respecting Myanmar traditions, we bought one of the beautiful teak boats that usually carries goods along the river and transformed it meticulously into a luxury boat with 7 cabins. Now the Amara I cruises mainly along the liveliest part of the over 2000 km long Ayeyarwaddy river between Bagan and Mandalay, as far north as Bhamo.

Following the success of the Amara I, we built a second boat. Even more luxurious and with only 5 spacious cabins, the Amara II is one of the most iconic river cruisers on the Ayeyarwaddy today. The journeys on either boat have become famous in their own right, not the least due to the first class service and friendliness of the crew.

The latest jewel in the Amara Group Myanmar's crown is the AOR Beach Resort on one of the most stunning solitary locations on Ngapali Beach on the Gulf of Bengal. The AOR Beach Resort is an eco-friendly resort, with just 26 bungalows built of local teak and all with direct access to the fine, white sand beach. Featuring a large pool, indoor and outdoor spa facilities, its own restaurant and poolside bar it lives up to its motto "there is a place beyond your dreams...."

The mission of the Amara Group Myanmar is to offer luxury accommodation of the highest available standard to visitors, whether interested in relaxing beach-holidays in unspoiled natural beauty, or in exploring Myanmar's cultural riches. Amara Group Myanmar, together with the Amara Foundation is dedicated to directly improving the social fabric of the lives of ordinary Myanmar residents - particularly providing badly-needed medical assistance to the more remote villages - and to protecting the rich wildlife, natural resources and scenery of the country which are constantly in danger. A large part of our profits is ploughed back into these privately-run programs.

Up to quite recently, Myanmar was one of the least-known and most remote countries in the world, yet it has more to offer than any other Asian country. Mysterious and romantic, its immense cultural riches and vast expanses of spectacular and untouched natural scenery are waiting to be discovered by the socially and ecologically responsible visitor. But, more than anything, visitors are beguiled by the charm, friendliness, openness and serenity of its highly spiritual people.

We sincerely hope that you will be one of these visitors and also fall under the spell of the country's beauty and the charm of its peoples. In return for Myanmar's generosity of spirit, and by travelling with us, you will help us protect the country's wildlife and scenery as well as to provide medical and educational assistance to its people. And, equally as valuable, when you meet them or they invite you into their homes, out of curiosity and warm hospitality, you will be enriching their lives as much as they will be enriching yours.
