Amara Mountain Resort
How glorious a greeting the sun gives the mountains! (John Muir)
Step back in time when staying at the Amara Mountain Resort. A former British guest house, now an exclusive hotel with just ten rooms, each with an open fireplace, it is surrounded by well tended gardens in the English style but enhanced by exotic flowers and trees. Enjoy yet another aspect of Myanmar when visiting Kalaw! We are delighted that the Amara Mountain Resort has won the Trip Advisor certificate of excellence several years running and has been rated as the number one resort in Kalaw by clients.
With just twelve rooms, each client is assured individual service and attention. Each spacious room has its own open fireplace and extra heater in the bathroom. The views are onto the well tended garden and the far away Shan Mountains. Our aim is to make guests feel at home in this former British colonial manor!
Enjoy your meals in the dining room or on the outdoor terrace. Weather permitting, we serve a candle-lit dinner in the garden. Our Chef takes pride in preparing dishes using local and regional specialties, as well as fruits and vegetables from the resort’s own organic garden. Weather permittet, we serve a candle-lit dinner in the garden.
Spa & Wellness
Because of its mountainous location, Kalaw’s evenings can get quite chilly. Enjoy the newly installed dry sauna followed by a massage for a relaxing end of the day.
Kalaw & Nationalpark
The former British hill station, Kalaw, lies around 1350m above sea level, and thus benefits from a temperate climate, although there can even be frost in December and January. The mountains surrounding Kalaw, up to 1800m high, are ideal for day- or longer treks, during which you can visit the villages of different ethnic tribes (Pao, Danu, Palaung), enjoy the nature and the magical view from the View Point over a cup of tea.
The Kalaw National Park located close to the Amara Mountain Resort Hotel offers a wide variety of flora and fauna. For example, over 400 species of birds have been sighted in the National Park Kalaw out of the approx. 1000 species found in Myanmar, thus making it a favorite destination for bird watchers. In addition there are leopards, several feral cat species, wild boar, monkeys, reptiles and deer. And the many types of wild orchids delight visitors!
This British-colonial residence, orginally built in 1909 and lovingly restored, is surrounded by gardens with ancient trees and bright flower beds. As you look over the town of Kalaw and the Shan Mountains, enjoy the privacy and tranquility that surrounds you.
Enjoy a round of golf at the 9-hole course next door or undertake an easy trekking excursion on foot to the famous caves. Our staff will be happy to advise you and make all arrangements. Or simply enjoy a relaxing day in the lovely gardens.
With the unique combination of European standards and quality, combined with a touch of british flair and Asian hospitality we strive to make your stay at the Amara Mountain R esort an unforgettable experience each and every day.
